Jhol Momos in London, Ontario

(3 guest reviews)

Jhol momos are the dish people drive across London for. Freshly steamed dumplings are dropped into a bowl of jhol — a thin, brick-red broth built on roasted tomato, toasted sesame, peanut, garlic and Himalayan spice — so every momo arrives soaked in flavour.

About Our Jhol Momos

Jhol means gravy or broth in Nepali, and the sauce is the whole point. Tomatoes and sesame are roasted before they are blended, which is what gives the jhol its smoky depth, and the broth is kept thin on purpose so you can drink what is left in the bowl.

We serve jhol momos with vegetable or chicken dumplings. They are the most talked-about plate on our menu and the reason a lot of guests from Southcrest, Wortley Village and White Oaks became regulars. Eat them with a spoon, and do not skip the broth.

How We Make Jhol Momos

The dumpling and the broth are two separate crafts, finished together at the pass.

Roasted tomato and sesame base

Roasting before blending is the step most kitchens skip; it is what gives our jhol its smoky, nutty backbone.

Thin broth, big flavour

The jhol is deliberately loose rather than thick, so it soaks into the wrapper instead of coating it.

Dumplings steamed, then bathed

The momos are steamed fresh and go into the broth at the last moment so they never turn soggy.

Jhol Momos – Frequently Asked Questions

What are jhol momos?

Jhol momos are steamed Nepali dumplings served in jhol — a thin, spiced broth made from roasted tomato, sesame, peanut, garlic and Himalayan spices. The momos soak up the sauce as you eat.

Are jhol momos very spicy?

They are the spiciest momo on our menu, hot and tangy at the same time. Ask for mild jhol if you want the flavour without the fire.

Do you have vegetarian jhol momos?

Yes. Vegetable jhol momos use the same broth and the same hand-folded technique as the chicken version.

Do jhol momos travel well for delivery?

They do — the broth is packed separately or sealed so the dumplings are not sitting in liquid for the whole trip. Eat them soon after they arrive for the best texture.

Where can I get jhol momos in London, Ontario?

At our Wilkins Street location in South London, minutes from Wellington Road and Highway 401. We also deliver jhol momos across Highland, White Oaks, Old South and neighbouring areas.
